Bangkok: A Steamy City
As a business and tourist hub of South East Asia, Bangkok is a steamy, sprawling metropolis that makes a popular destination for tourists from across the world. With a night-life that has a reputation of being a steamy as the climate, it also has a host of other attractions making it a suitable choice for anybody.
Despite the heavy traffic congestion, the city is easily navigable thanks to the sky-train and subway networks which bring parts of the city so much closer to each other. Because they service most of the major roadways in the city, you are likely to always be near a station, meaning that it is easier for you to venture further into the Thailand community.
A modern city, Bangkok has everything that you will need whilst on your visit and shoppers will delight at some of the enormous shopping malls that can be found. Asides from the malls, street markets can be found everywhere and it is easy to pick up small trinkets or gifts that you will not find back home to take back for a loved one.
The Thai cuisine, of course, can be found everywhere. One can barely walk a hundred meters or so before finding a street vendor selling a snack or two. The more daring amongst you might want to try more exotic dishes such as locust or scorpion, but for those who are less gastronomically challenged, more recognizable foods such as chicken, pork and rice are widespread. Thai cuisine is notoriously spicy and often too hot for the visitor’s palate, although you could try to ask for less chili. If you still find that Thai food is not for you then there is still a huge selection of international restaurants in the city meaning that you can find just about any dish that you want.
The many temples that can be found throughout the city are another popular attraction for visitors and they can be accessible all year round. Wat Phra Kaew, or the temple of the Emerald Buddha, is considered the most important temple in thailand life and is always open to visitors. Located near the famous Khao San Road, which is full of bars, pubs and restaurants, it makes for a great day out.
The climate in Bangkok is hot all year round with temperatures rarely dropping below 30 degrees. Even during the rainy season it is still hot, it just becomes more humid. Relief from the heat can be found in one of the numerous pools that are in the city and any decent hotel is likely to have a rooftop pool itself. In addition to the pools that can be found around the city in which to cool off, Bangkok is also located close to several coast and Island resorts. Even during the rainy season many of the islands remain sunny and many locals and tourists make the short trips to their favourite beaches whenever they can. One of the most relaxing aspects of thai life is certainly chilling out on the beach with a drink or two and a visit to Bangkok does not necessarily mean that you are confined to the city.
